Now that piece of gear may look familiar to you, it’s the Sony HMZ-T2 3D personal viewer which hasn’t been as popular as some speculated before it’s release. Since then the highly anticipated Oculus Rift VR headset has been a topic of huge debate. Many believe it will revolutionise the industry, others feel that it’s nothing but a gimmick, and of course there are still huge numbers that are yet to experience the device. There were initial criticisms of the headset that it caused motion sickness after short amounts of use, this has however reportedly been fixed in the latest build.
But, is Sony bringing their own virtual reality headset into the market? If the many sources that have rumoured its announcement tomorrow are to be believed, then PlayStation is about to get yet another boost in the ever expanding gamins industry.
If you’ll cast your mind back to the CEX press conference, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai made it clear what the company’s ethos was and what 2014 is all about for the electronics giant. “Kando”. Delivering the ‘wow’ factor to the consumer. Kaz stressed that this year is all about play, and kick starting the next generation of PlayStation. Whilst some of his words seemed empty during his keynote speech, maybe it was all foreshadowing this major leap in gaming technology for PS4? Of course the device could also be used for PS3 but I presume this is a PS4 focussed product that will help immerse gamers even more in some of the fantastic titles coming to the platform this year. Tomorrow Sony is holding a “driving the future of innovation” session at the GDC and we’re hoping for big announcements and more exciting news for what looks set to be a great year for PS4.
